Draft posters for the upcoming short film Light Affair.
Based on the feedback from the last submission, I did some alterations to the characters - namely the fins and eyes of Puff and Mother, so that the design of the character is more cohesive with the rest of the film (that uses lots of textures).
City lights View of a city in the horizon at night, seen from the middle of the ocean. The city lights blinking attractively. The waves of the ocean gentle.
Just below the water surface The surface of the water, seen from below, shimmering, with light rays penetrating though.
In the ocean In the intermediary depth of the ocean. Floating debris to liven the scene.
Ocean floor Hidden dangers lurk in the darker waters of the ocean floor which is littered with corals and sea anemone.
Puff The young age of the character is emphasised by the roundness of his body coupled with the absurdly small fins and tail. True, the large eyes are mainly for the Cuteness Factor, but it is also the main way the character Puff will show his emotions; happy, excited, sheepish, etc.
He has to wriggle his tiny appendages really fast to keep pace with his mother. But this tires him out easily, resulting in him swimming in erratic bursts of speed in order to catch up.
Mother The mother is a protective creature, trying to guide her young energetic son Puff through the ocean. Her mature character is shown by the serene pace she keeps while swimming. She gets anxious and upset whenever Puff is not at her side, but that is only because she worries about him.
Another test animation of the mother puffer fish, exploring how the character swims/moves, with some detail to fin movements. Although not very obvious here, the body of the fish expands and contracts as it "breathes".
